For the match with Horfield D, the F team agreed to add on two extra boards. It meant that Carolus and Charlie played two days running, this time on the bottom boards.
Our top four of Miguel, Joe, Mark and Nick were up against very seasoned opposition.
Miguel did well to win the exchange against Pete but found the enemy bishop was impregnable and when he was unable to make headway in the endgame he settled for a draw.
Joe has been kicking himself because in time trouble he let a superior position against Scott drift into a draw. But we’ve all done that!
Nick also felt he had a better position with Michael but let it slip and Mark, too, drew with Graham. Still, that was four solid draws!
However, it was not to be for the juniors this time. Both Carolus and Charlie may well have been feeling the after effects of their excellent wins 24 hours previously and they both got into difficulty quite early on. Perhaps it was simply a bridge too far but their keenness is to be commended.
It meant the match was lost 4-2 and this was pro-rated to 2.5-1.5 for the league tables.
