The Bristol Junior team had an absolutely fantastic result in their first outing in Division 1. They finished comfortably third with excellent performances across the board, but special mentions must be made for our club's own Aron, who led the pack for most of the evening, Toby for an almost entirely win-streak performance, Oli for an entirely win-streak performance, and ex-Downend Chirag also went undefeated!

The Upstarts gave their promotion bid the best chance with another solid 6-2 win, this time against the Marshall Artists. The result leaves the Upstarts third by only one point! The Bishops went with a more peaceable 4-4 draw against St John's College C, which keeps them comfortably in the top half of the division. Games and match report are all available!

It was the first ECF Online Under 18 Blitz Championship today and there were 4 club members playing in the event. Each one scored at least 50%! Oli did extremely well and finished 4th out of almost 100 players with a strong 8/11 points. This achievement also gives Oli third place in the U18 category! Bilal also had a very good showing with 6½/11. Toby and Aron were also in action and scored an impressive 5½/11 in the blitz, but they took part in the bullet tournament as well scoring very well with 9/15 and 8½/15 respectively! Well done to all the juniors!

In the hastily organised online junior county championships, Bristol pulled out all of the stops and produced a huge team for Division 2. Many thanks go to all the parents that showed a dedication to chess organisation well above my capabilities. The tournament took an hour and a half with as many games played as possible and the team's 10 best results contributing to their final score. It was a close night with Bristol hovering in or just the promotion zone for the entire time. Unfortunately, they were pipped at the last moment by the narrowest of margins.
There were some particularly excellent performances from the Bristol juniors with the top three spots taken by our members, including Oli and Aron.
The next event will be played at 18:00 on Monday June 8th, with Bristol being huge promotion contenders. If there are any Bristol-based juniors that would like to get involved, please get in touch. First join this lichess team with a quick note to say who you are and tournament links will become available soon.

There was yet more action in the J4NCL and a new club-led team sprang up out of nowhere; the Bristol Bishops. Honestly, teams are springing up quicker than Covid-19 cases. The Upstarts split the points 4-4 with KJCA Young Kestrels, while the new Bishops team won their first round in the Swiss Division 7-1. As you'd expect, a lengthy match report is also available along with all 18 games from the club and its associates.
