Who doesn't love a spot of chess? Exactly. Well this is the club for you! Downend & Fishponds are one of the largest chess clubs in the South West of England. We welcome new players of all abilities and we're home to a whole range of ages and skills, for players who want to play competitively, socially, or simply improve their game.
Downend & Fishponds enters a whopping six teams in the Bristol & District League with many challenging for titles, while the others provide the opportunity for members to play as much competitive league chess as they like, regardless of skill or experience. To assist this, we also "bolt on" extra players to four board teams as and when the opposition agrees.
We operate a welcoming Junior section for all abilities on club nights alongside adult chess, with winners of multiple Bristol age groups to learn and progress from. We have even had juniors who went all the way to master level, played in the British Championships and represented England at their age level!
We meet every Wednesday at The Fishponds Club, from 19:30. These meetings are all year round, come rain or shine. We're always on the look out for new players, so come along and give it a go!
