Kidlington Chess Tournament 2017

Oli played at the popular Kidddlngton congress this weekend and managed joint 1st in the Minor section with 4/5, remaining unbeaten over the weekend with 3 wins one draw and one bye. There was stiff competition with nearly 60 in the section. Oli found himself on top board for the final round, and after a long unclear game, he finally accepted the offer of a draw to ensure share of first place. Grant and Shaun were also playing in the Minor and Richard in the Intermediate.

Vital chess preparation! Saturday morning at the Welcome Break in Kiddlington

It was an excellent congress. A large venue, with a total of 192 entrants across 4 sections.

Round 3 underway at 6.00pm Saturday evening

At the prize giving Oli got to meet and chat to John Nunn, who himself came 2nd in the highly contested open section, with Marcus Harvey taking 1st place.

Oli and John Nunn at the prize giving.

This is Oli's third congress win out of the last 4 he has played in, a great effort. However, this will be the last Minor section he plays in as he is now only eligible for Intermediate and above. He knows it will be tough, but is looking forward to the challenge.
